Scléip is a national talent competition catering specifically for Irish-medium and Gaeltacht post-primary schools. The aim of the competition is to encourage pupils attending Irish medium secondary schools to use their Irish through the various performing arts by giving them the opportunity to take part in a innovative and exciting event. Students from Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh participated in six events at the Munster Final on Wednesday, 5th February, and were delighted to come home with five acts placed in first place. These five acts will now go on to represent Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh at the All-Ireland Final of Scléip in the Axis Theatre, Ballymun on Saturday, 1st March. GCL have had acts participate in the All-Ireland final of Scléíp on many occasions since 2007 but have never had such a substantial representation in the final. Sinéad Toomey, a gifted transition year student, won the overall prize in 2012 over all other acts, ranging from 1st to 6th year, by singing her own composition. The following are the acts who will represent GCL in March:
Sinéad Toomey (B4)
Chloe Milliken (B2)
Caela O’ Shaughnessy (B1)
Caela O’ Shaughnessy, Becky Ní Thuathail, Leah Carter & Taylor McEvoy (B1)
Conor de Bhailís & Cion O’ Brien (B5 & B2)
